(16 Mar 1916, Thursday, Elk City Leader, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): We are very sorry to report the death of Mr. W. T. Carver, who died at Elk City Sunday afternoon. Mr. Carver had lived in Canute and vicinity for several years. He was a highly respected citizen, always appeared to be on the right and lending his efforts in building up schools and churches, and the country generally. The body was started Monday evening on train 42, for his old home in Iowa, where, we understand his aged mother still lives. We desire to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Elizabeth Carver, wife of the deceased, and to all other relatives as well. William T. Carver, resident of this section since 1901, when he came here and filed on a claim near Canute, died Sunday afternoon in this city having come here for treatment some time ago. The remains were prepared for burial and funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the South Methodist church by Rev. I. F. Harmon, after which the remains were shipped to the former home of the deceased at Bayard, Iowa. Mr. Carver was born in Dayne County, Wisconsin, December 10, 1861. He removed to Iowa, and there was married to Miss Elizabeth Hawkins, who survives him. He also leaves an aged mother and many relatives, including one brother, C. E. Carver of Hydro, who with Mrs. Carver accompanied the remains to Iowa. Mr. Carver was a member of the I.O.O.F. of Canute, members of which body had charge of the funeral services. The remains were prepared for burial by Chandler & Robinson. Deceased had many friends in this section who will learn with regret of his death. (23 Mar 1916, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF W. T. CARVER William T. Carver was born in Dayne county, Wisconsin, December 10, 1861, died in Elk City, March 12, 1916, age 54 years, 3 months and 2 days. He was married to Miss Elizabeth S. Hawkins, December 28, 1887, in Carroll county, Iowa. The (sic) moved to Oklahoma in 1901 and settled on a claim near Canute, Okla., and has lived in Canute for several years. He joined the I.O.O.F. lodge in 1916. Four days before the end came he was converted and baptised and died in the faith. He leaves a wife, aged mother, who resides at Carver, Iowa, and three brothers, John A. Carver, Cooper, Iowa; E. A. Carver, Coon Rapids, Iowa and C. E. Carver, Hydro, Okla. The funeral was under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodges of Canute and Elk City, held at the First M. E. Church South, Monday, March 13th at 2 P.M. The sermon was preached by Rev. I. F. Harmon, pastor of the M. E. Church South Elk City charge. The body was shipped to Cooper, Iowa, for burial, accompanied by his wife and brother, C. E.
