L. Chandler Passed Away. Alice Nannette, the two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Chandler, died Sunday at the home of her parents here, after an illness of three weeks from typhoid fever, which later developed spinal meningitis. During the greater part of her illness she was in critical condition, hovering between life and death, and the end although a great blow to the family, was not unexpected. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Dr. J. J. Shaw of the M. E. Church, South, after which the remains were laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery. The funeral services were largely attended and the floral offerings were profuse. The child was a favorite with every one, and their sympathy goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Chandler in their time of trouble. They worked faithfully to keep alive the spark of life in the little body which had brought so much happiness to their home, but in the end submitted to the will of Him who does all things well. (31 Aug 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OF SUCH IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Alice Annette (sic) Chandler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Chandler, was born May 30, 1914, and died Aug. 27th, 1916, aged two years, two months and twenty-eight days. Little Alice had been sick for over two weeks but under the care of her physician and the constant attention of her devoted parents she appeared to be passing safely through the states of the disease, but it was not to be, and on Sunday morning her Spirit passed to the arms of that Savior, who said, "let the little ones come unto me." A short record of a short life, yet who may measure its influence? Always a bright and interesting child, little Alice had reached that period, when the unfolding mind and artless simplicity of childhood lend peculiar charm and she will be sadly missed by those in the home and in their great sorrow for the loss of this sweet little blossom, the grieving parents and relatives have the deep sympathy of the people of Elk City where the life of their darling was spent. Whiterobed like a waxen lily she lay in her snowy casket while short services were held at the home at three o'clock on Monday afternoon. Rev. J. J. Shaw spoke words of consolation and hope to the bereaved ones after which the flower covered casket was borne to our beautiful Fairlawn Cemetery, and the little form was laid to rest - only the form, for Alice, pure, sweet and sinless forever more in a fairer land awaits those who loved her here. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
