(18 Mar 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): CHESNEY RITES ARE READ TODAY Citizen of City for Past 16 Years Succumbs after Short Illness. Funeral services for Mercy L. Chesney, wife of Isom N. Chesney, were held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the First Baptist church with the pastor, the Rev. H. W. Shirley, officiating. Mrs. Chesney had been ill since last Wednesday. She was taken to a local hospital Sunday when her condition became serious and she died there early last eveing (sic). Mrs. Chesney has lived in this city for the past sixteen years, moving here from Strong City where the family had lived for 12 years. Mr. Chesney homesteaded on land in that section. Born in Texas. Mrs. Chesney was born in Hill county, Texas, January 31, 1885, and when six years of age came with her family to Dead Indian, Oklahoma Territory, near the present city of Strong City. She became a member of the First Baptist church when a young lady. She was married to Mr. Chesney April 17, 1904. Surviving Mrs. Chesney are her husband, Mr. Chesney and six children, four of whom live at home. They are: Miss Byrl and Miss Leona, Ray Chesney, Malcolm Chesney and Sylvester Chesney. A daughter and son, who are married, live in Erick. They are Mrs. B. L. Shoemaker, and Elmo Chesney. The students of the Junior and Senior class of Elk City high school attended the funeral this afternoon in courtesy to their schoolmates, Malcolm and Sylvester. Interment was made in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Gentry-Killough, funeral directors, were in charge. (20 Mar 1930, Thursday, Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, OK): Mrs. Isom Chesney, daughter of J. F. Cunningham of Cheyenne died at her home in Elk City Monday after an illness of only a few days. Mrs. Chesney resided near Cheyenne in an early day and was well known here. A large crowd from here attended the funeral in Elk City Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Chesney has four brothers, two sisters and her father residing in Cheyenne. The brothers are Judson Cunningham, Kenneth Cunningham, Jess Cunningham and Ray Cunningham, and the sisters are Mrs. S. H. Rimbey and Mrs. John Cross. She also has a number of nephews and nieces here.
