Just as we go to press we learn of the death of Mrs. G. W. Clark, nine miles west of Elk City. (12 Dec 1924, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): The funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Clark, wife of George W. Clark, who died December 9th, was held at the home nine miles west of Elk City, yesterday morning, November 11th. Rev. Wells of the Spring Creek neighborhood preached the sermon and spoke many words of praise for this noble woman whom he had known for over twenty years saying that he had never heard a single word spoken against her. C. C. Perry, Fay and Clyde Perry and Mrs. John Darendinger sang "Asleep in Jesus," "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer my God to Thee." The floral offerings were many and beautiful, and with the large attendance at funeral, showed the deep love and respect her friends and acquaintances had for her. Her body was laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery in Elk City. Mrs. Clark was sixty years old just twelve days before her death. She was married to Mr. Clark in 1886 and leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, and two children, Dale Clark and Mrs. H. B. Walker both of Doxey, and several grandchildren. She had been sick for some time suffering from gall stone trouble. The News Democrat feel a personal loss in the death of Mrs. Clark. For several years she had been our correspondent from Spring Creek community, and her letters were always written in such good style, and her items were of the very best. We were always glad to receive her letters and knew they were read with interest. We have heard many speak of her goodness and how good she had always been to the sick, and her greatest pleasure was to do good and help those who needed help. She was a true friend, a lady of culture and refinement, and appreciated so much everything that was done for her thanking all for any kindness they might do for her. She was always interested in the community and did so much to bring out the best of everything and everybody in the district in which she lived. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a consistent member, a true christian and was a lovable character. Her mission on earth is ended and the world is better for her having lived in it. The deepest sympathy of the News Democrat family is extended to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
