He also has 19 grandchildren, three of whom preceded him in death. He has been a faithful member of the Church of Christ for over thirty-five years. He read and loved the Bible. He was always willing and ready to do his part in church work. He was ill with heart trouble for over a year, and was very patient during his illness. Several years of his life were spent on the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee, farming and working in the coal mines. He was an excellent coal miner, he also worked at many other jobs during this time. The last remaining years of his life was spent in Western Oklahoma, near Elk City, Okla. He was loved and respected by the people, wherever he lived. He worked on the farm until three weeks before his death. He never gave up until he was paralized two days and one night before his death. His tongue was paralized one day and night. We are very grateful to the kind friends and neighbors for their tender care of him in his helpless condition. One daughter was absent during the illness and death of her father, Mrs. Eva Swack of Tennessee, but she will join with us in our thanks to the people for caring for the loved husband and father. Bro. Carman of Elk City, spoke comforting words to the relatives at the Church of Christ at Grandview. The funeral services were held at the church. Bro. Cox led the singing. Gentry-Killough had charge of the body. We also wish to thank them for their kindness. He was buried at the Grandview cemetery. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers from the church and other kind friends and relatives, and we appreciated this very much. He loved the church, brothers and sisters here. We thank you all again. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
