C. COOPER DIED MONDAY. W. C. Cooper, residing three miles northeast of this city, died at an early hour Monday morning, after a brief illness. While Mr. Cooper has been in poor health for some months past, still it was not until a few days before his death that his condition became serious, and but few of his friends had heard of his sickness until the news of his death came. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the residence with interment at the Sayre-Doxey cemetery. Mr. Cooper was an old resident of this section, for some years residing three miles south of Sayre, and for the past two years three miles northeast of this city. During this time he had made a large circle of personal friends who will extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. (16 Jan 1920, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. W. C. Cooper died Sunday night about eleven o'clock, at his home two miles northeast of Sayre. Kidney affection (sic) is said to have been the cause of death. Mr. Cooper was the father of Lawson Cooper, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Simpson; and brother-in-law of Bill Simpson and Miss Mabel Simpson, all of Carter. He had been ill for about a week before passing away. The Simpson grocery store was closed all day Monday, the family all being over at the Cooper home. The remains were laid to rest in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery Monday. Mr. Cooper had visited the Simpson family here a number of times and consequently had become acquainted with a goodly number of the Carter people who regret exceedingly to hear of his death. Deceased leaves a wife and five children. He was a member of the Woodman Lodge, and carried $1000 insurance in that order. We extend our sympathy to the grief-stricken family and other relatives in the passing away of their loved one. Expression of Sympathy. The pupils and teacher of the Carter High School wish to express our deepest sympathy for our bereft class mate and friend, Lawson Cooper, in the death of his father. Lawson was unexpectedly called from his school duties last Wednesday week to the bedside of his father who was taken ill on Sunday night. The family has the sympathy of the entire High School. Frank Cartwright and pupils. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
