(19 Jan 1923, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): J. W. CORN DIES VERY SUDDENLY. Mr. Corn Was President of the Elk City Light and Power Co. The news last Sunday of the sudden death of J. W. (Jim) Corn, of Tucumcari, N. M., was a surprise to many here, as he was in the city a well man two weeks ago today. While he complained some while here of not being well, he did not get down, and on January 5 he went to Shawnee on business, before he returned to Tucumcari Sunday following. That afternoon he was taken to a hospital for an operation for appendicitis. His condition was serious and he lingered under the operation for a week, dying Sunday afternoon, January 14. J. W. Corn was president of the Elk City Ice, Light & Fuel Co., and also managed a similar company at Tucumcari. He had recently sold a newspaper of Tucumcari, of which he had been editor and publisher. He had been married two times, and leaves a beautiful daughter, Marjorie, twenty years of age, and his second wife who he married last summer, to mourn his loss in Tucumcari. His brother, W. E. Corn, and Will Royse of this city, left here via auto last Monday morning for the funeral at Tucumcari. E. J. Corn was another brother at Shawnee. J. W. Corn was well and favorably known here, and his many friends join in sympathy with the mourners. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
