COVEY Edward M. "Ed" Jr.
 Funeral services for Edward M. "Ed" Covey, Jr., will be held 2 p.m.
Tuesday, in the Butler First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Roy
Wilburn.  Burial will follow in the Butler Cemetery, Butler, Custer
County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.
 Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.
 Edward M. Covey was born September 25, 1926, to Edward M., Sr., and
Rossie Womble Covey in Butler, on the family homestead and died Thursday,
February 14, 2002 on the same homestead.
 Ed married Joyce Elaine Logan on May 15, 1948, in Leedey.  After a brief
search for greener pastures in California, the young couple moved back to
Butler in 1949.  He farmed, ranched, and traded cattle until 1960 when
Gov. Raymond Gary appointed him a District 3 County Commissioner.  Ed
served until 1966 and once again begin full time farming and ranching.
 In 1981, he was reelected District 3 Custer County Commissioner and
served until 1998.
 He was a member of the Butler Baptist Church.  He was member of the
Custer Co. Mineral Owners Association, Cattleman's Association, Masonic
Lodge, Eastern Star, and was appointed as Honorary United States
Marshall.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Lorene Taylor and
husband George, Wanita Standlee and husband Stan, and a brother Dwaine
Covey.
  Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; son James Covey and wife
Yvonne of Custer City; daughter Donna Roper of the home; and six
grandchildren; one great grandchild.
 Memorial may be made in his name to Oklahoma Medical Research or the
Butler First Baptist Church.
