Melville L. Cox was born in Union County, Tennessee, Dec. 27, 1847, married to Mrs. Carley Warsham Dec. 12, 1889. Made profession of faith in Christ a few weeks ago and was by his request received into the Methodist church. Died March 27, 1908. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Randle in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. (2 Apr 1908, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): We chronicle the death of Melville E. Cox, March 27, of phthisic age 60 years and 3 months. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, south, Sunday, March 29, burial at Elk City cemetery. Mr. Cox was an old citizen of Oklahoma, having first settled in East Oklahoma, and has lived in Elk City about five years. He was a long sufferer from the wasting disease and his good wife, Mrs. M. E. Cox, watched, and nursed him day and night for years and it is said he never wanted for anything. He had many friends and all who knew him loved him for his fine disposition. His last hours passed away peacefully, without pain, in the arms of his loving, faithful wife.
