Sorrow was expressed by everyone last Thursday when the news went over our city that Tom Crowder was dead. For years he had lived among us known by old and young, who always received a happy reply from him to their salutations of greetings. For thirteen years he had been an invalid, having received a stoke of paralysis at that time, from which he never fully recovered. He put forth every effort possible in helping himself and with an indomitable will kept going. He had a wheel chair which he could use very handily, and everywhere he went kind friends would help him. They loved to help him. He was so appreciative, and so brave, you did not hear a murmur from him, and he radiated sunshine wherever he went. Tenderly as a little child was he cared for by the devoted wife, during the years and during his last illness of several weeks. He was always so patient and thoughtful of others. He was married to Miss Kate Turner in 1900 at Mt. Vernon, Texas. Before his death he requested that he be buried at Mt. Vernon and the body was prepared for burial and shipment to the old home by Grubitz & Son. The remains were accompanied to their last resting place by Mrs. Crowder, the devoted wife, his brother, Dr. E. B. Crowder, of Elk City, and sister, Miss Lizzie Crowder, of Mt. Vernon, who had been here several weeks helping to care for him. He will be missed very much by the people of our community. The citizens of Elk City, as a token of love and respect ordered many beautiful flowers to be sent to Mt. Vernon for the funeral. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
