(21 Oct 1920, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A little eight-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Darendinger, formerly of this city, but now residing at Elk City, died on Thursday morning last. Funeral services and interment was at the Doxey-Sayre cemetary (sic). (28 Oct 1920, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Clara Faye Darendinger, born at Sayre, Okla., Feb. 7, 1920, died at Elk City Oct. 13, 1920, aged eight months and six days. Clara Faye, only child of John and Clara Perry Darendinger, and much loved by parents and relatives, as she had always been a little sufferer. Eminent physicians had pronounced her case a mystery and all that physicians and loved ones could do was of no avail, and on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 2:15 o'clock p.m., she closed her eyes and went to her eternal sleep leaving a memory of the most intelligent little lives ever known. Funeral services were conducted at the home by their pastor, W. M. Cochran, amid many relatives and friends, including the little one's great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Feland, who were much devoted to her. After services at Elk City the little body was taken to the Sayre-Doxey cemetery, where a host of neighbors and friends were awaiting them, taking charge of the services there, rendering their friendship and sympathy through a touching song service, Bro. Cochran speaking much comfort and sympathy through the Scriptures. All participants of the service showed the high esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Darendinger are held by their legion of friends. We know that Clara Faye is in a world of bliss far superior to ours, where sickness or suffering does not come. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
