JAMES (18 Nov 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): FUNERAL HELD FOR EARLY DAY FOSS RESIDENT. Rites Are Read For Mrs. James Davis, 76, Near Old Homestead. Funeral services for Mrs. James Davis, 76, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Baptist church in Foss, it was learned here today. Rev. A. W. Barker, of El Reno, read the rites. Mrs. Davis was an early day resident of Foss. She with her husband, James Davis, homesteaded on land near that town in 1890. Mrs. Davis had resided with her son, Albert Davis near Oklahoma City since the death of her husband thirteen years ago. She had been ill for the past two months. She is survived by six children, 18 grandchildren. The children are F. C. Lewis (sic), of this city; Mrs. Mamie Butterfield, of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Hiram Petty, of Holley, Colo., Mrs. Sallie Bolton, of Oklahoma City, Tom Davis, of Dallas, Tex., and the son with whom she was living. With the exception of Mrs. Butterfield all these attended the final rites. Two brothers, Lynn Williams of Sweetwater, and Walter Williams, of Oklahoma City, were also at the funeral. One other brother and two sisters were unable to attend. Mrs. Davis was born at Texarkana, Tex., in 1854. She was a member of the Baptist church. Elk City people who attended the funeral of Mrs. Davis, were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mullins, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Wagnon and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Ballew.
