J. Davis After a sickness of three years and after being bed fast for over three weeks, the little death angel whispered in the ears of a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. E. J. Davis and called her to the Land of Rest and Peace with Him, Our Father. Mrs. Davis had had light strokes of paralysis during her three years of sickness and after having her last one there was no hopes given for her recovery and she was at once bedfast at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Van Lundie where the best of care and comfort was given her by her fond children and husband, assisted by her many, many friends. Although we know her loved ones shall miss her, we can console ourselves by the knowledge that she will never suffer the pains she has suffered again and we know that she is at rest and in peace with her God. Mrs. Davis was the mother of a large family of which there are ten living and three dead. Her children and husband were at her bedside at the time of her death and have been with her since she was stricken. Besides her own children she is the mother of five daughters-in-law and four sons-in-law and they were very much devoted to her, each showing their love by their ever ready ways of nursing and caring for her. Mrs. Davis was 57 years of age in September. She was born in Texas in 1866. In 1878 she was married to Mr. Davis and later moved to Oklahoma. They have lived a happy married life together for 45 years. Mrs. Davis was known by the "old-timers" as their 'nurse' since she and Mr. Davis came in our midst. Never was the day or night too cool or damp that Mrs. Davis could not go to the bed of the sick and devoted every minute to their wants. There is but few homes in our little city but that Mrs. Davis has not waited upon some sick member of the family and at the same time devoted that motherly loved to her husband and children and was a faithful and loving neighbor. Interment was made at the Carter Cemetery at four o'clock with Rev. Abbott and Rev. Nichols officiating at the services which were simple but sweet and the music rendered by the young folks very touching. The floral offerings were beautiful. Mrs. Davis leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband and ten children, all of whom are married except one, her youngest child, Charley. The bereaved are as follows: Mr. E. J. Davis, husband; sons, Ed, Gee, Jim, Johnnie, Virgil (Pat), and Charley; daughters, Mrs. Van Lundie, Mrs. Fred Currier, Mrs. Med Mullen and Mrs. Cleo Davis, besides many devoted grandchildren and hosts of friends. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
