18 Jan 1923, Thursday, Elk City News-Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK):
SWEETWATER MAN DIES HERE.
Last Friday Monroe Defries, of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, was brought to Tisdal
hospital, suffering from ruptured appendix.  The doctors said it was too
late for operation but the family was anxious for everything possible to
be done, so the operation was performed.  He did not get any better and
passed away last night.  The body was prepared for burial by Grubitz & Son
and taken to Sweetwater this morning, where interment will be made.  Mr.
Defries was fifty years of age.
