Obit of Pearsey L. Devereaux, Jr. - Beckham Co. OK PEARSEY L. DEVEREAUX, JR. Posted by Joan (DeFore) Garvey for Elk City Library Elk City Paper, Beckham Co., OK PEARSEY L. DEVEREAUX, JR. Funeral services for Pearsey DEVEREAUX are pending with the Martin Funeral Home. Mr. Devereaux died late Wednesday at the age of 65. Pearsey Devereaux was born in Montgomery, Texas. When he was 5 years of age the family moved to Amarillo, Texas for a short time, then they moved to Snyder, Okla. In December of 1932 the family moved to Elk City. He attended Elk City Schools and he finished High School at Douglas High School in Oklahoma City. He entered Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. After college, he worked as a bus driver for some 15 years in San Francisco. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., after his retirement in the late 1950's. He was a union representative until he moved to Elk City in 1990, where he had lived since. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Birdine DEVEREAUX of the Elk City home; one son, Jeffery DEVEREAUX of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons, Anthony and Jason DEVEREAUX of Jefferson City; one sister, Mrs. Anna Bell SMITH, of Elk City; one half-brother, Thomas DEVEREAUX, of Houston, Texas, and one half-sister, Jean DEVEREAUX of Houston. Final arrangements will be announced when completed by the Martin Funeral Home.
