James Albert DeWess (sic) was born at Newark, Wise county, Texas, March 31, 1869. Died at Eala, Texas, June 26, 1930. Mr. DeWess was married to Martha Huddleson in 1889. Mr. and Mrs. Dewess had nine children, seven of whom are living. Two sons, Earl and Fount, have died in the last two years. Those surviving are: Mrs. Martha DeWess, Mrs. L. A. Hilderbrand, Mrs. Lee Hildebrand (sic), Lawrance DeWess, Bill DeWess, Warlow DeWess, Dack DeWess and Earnie DeWess. Mr. DeWess was a member of the Christian church. He had been ill for almost two years. He went south for his health and seemed to improve for awhile but lately he rapidly grew worse. Interment was made in the Delhi cemetery June 28. (3 Jul 1930, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): James A. Dewees, long time citizen of the Delhi community died in San Angelo, Texas, Thursday, June 26th, following a long seige of tuberculosis. The remains were brought to Altus by rail and received there Friday by D. G. Fatheree and conveyed to the late home in Delhi where funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. W. Bradshaw, of Sayre.
