The body was brought here and interred at the City cemetery, Saturday afternoon. Mabel had many warm friends among her acquaintances here. She and her mother, Mrs. Robert Keen here (were) among the early residents of Elk City. Her death is greatly regretted as she was a young lady of great promise. (25 Sep 1907, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Near Pilot, Okla., Friday, September 13, 1907, Miss Mabel Dewey, aged 18 years; our friend and neighbor girl. Oh, may the bright angels be standing ready to receive her into glory, where her rest will be eternal. Friends and relatives do not weep for sweet Mabel for you must all sooner or later cross the same chilly tide into the great beyond.
