(12 Aug 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): A vast concourse of sorrowing friends and grief stricken relatives followed the body of John J. Douglas, deceased, to its final resting place in the East Side Cemetery Saturday morning after the funeral which was held from the First Methodist church, with Reverend W. B. Andrews, pastor of the church, officiating. Deceased, an old time resident of Stephens county, loved by his many friends here, and who later moved to Fort Worth, died at his home in Fort Worth Thursday night at 8:30 just 11 days before his 81st birthday. Deceased moved to Texas from Missouri in 1876, when he came to Stephens county. He was the sheriff the county had, being connected with the sheriff's force for 15 years, and later elected to the office of district and county clerk for four years. He moved to Fort Worth in 1902 where he has made his home since. Deceased is survived by Mrs. John J. Douglas; four sons, V. S., Robert, Phil and John J., Jr., three daughters, Mrs. E. J. Ward, Mrs. Maggie Woods, and Mrs. W. K. Hutchins and several grandchildren. Friends of the deceased from Fort Worth and other cities attended the funeral services and burial ceremony, where a large floral offering expressed the love and admiration of the friends for the deceased as well as their sympathy for the sorrowing relatives. Breckenridge News. Mr. Douglas was the father of Mrs. Margaret Wood, the Carnegie Librarian.
