All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ DUKE, GLADYS DORALINE (3 Oct 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Gladys Burks Duke. Gladys Doraline Burks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Burks, was born on March 11, 1909 at Grimes, Oklahoma and departed this life on Monday afternoon at 3:30, September 30, 1929, at her home in Elk City. In 1914 she moved with her parents to Elk City where she grew to young womanhood. On June 2, 1928, she was united in marriage to Mr. Fuller Duke of Elk City. She became a Christian on her thirteenth birthday uniting with the First Christian Church of Elk City. She was a regular attendant and a worker in the Sunday school and Young People's Christian Endeavor Society, until recent months when the condition of her health made it impossible for her to attend. Mrs. Duke leaves of her immediate family her husband, Fuller Duke; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Burks, her brother Carl Burks and her sister, Mrs. Laura Ellis, all of Elk City. Besides these she leaves many other relatives and a great host of friends, who will mourn her death. Rev. Carl V. Covey, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted the funeral services on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, October 2nd, at the Broadway Methodist Church.
