(28 Oct 1920, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): SUDDEN DEATH OF JOHN W. DUNN. Just after going on the press last Thursday news came of the death of J. W. Dunn, at the home of his son, Wiley Dunn. He had seemed in good health, and talking to his son and wife about their trip to Kansas, where they had been called because of the serious illness of her father, Mr. Newell. They had only returned the night before. His father was up and around in his usual manner, and had milked, later coming in to his breakfast, where he was conversing with the family when he remarked that he had such an odd feeling in his hand, which soon extended to the arm and body. The doctor being called pronounced it paralysis. He only lived four hours after receiving the stroke. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Palmer of the Christian church. The large crowd of neighbors and friends in attendance and the many beautiful flowers on the casket spoke of the esteem in which he was held by all. Interment was made in Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of Grubitz & Son. John W. Dunn was born May 7, 1847, in Boone county, Mo.. Died at Elk City, Okla., Oct. 21, 1920, aged 73 years, 5 months and 14 days. He moved to Oklahoma in 1900 and settled near Cordell, later coming to Beckham county, where he resided until his death. He was married to Miss Sarah F. Martin Nov. 5, 1873. Seven children were born to this union, only three surviving, Wiley Dunn of Elk City, Mrs. Carrie Rodgers, Bellevue, Tex., and Mrs. A. Darrah of Cordell, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers arrived here to attend the funeral, but Mrs. Darrah was unable to be here because of having to go to the hospital for an operation. Mr. Dunn became a member of the Baptist church when a young man. He lived a true, consecrated Christian life. He was a most devoted father and dearly loved his grandchildren. His neighbors loved and respected him. His long life was filled with good deeds and he will be missed by all.
