Beckham Co. OK GLADYS DEMINGO (CHAPMAN) DYKES Posted by Joan (DeFore) Garvey for Elk City Library Elk City Paper, Beckham Co., OK GLADYS DEMINGO (CHAPMAN) DYKES Funeral services for Gladys D. DYKES will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Monday, at the Martin Funeral chapel in Elk City with Rev. Henry FLETCHER officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Gladys DYKES was born Dec. 25, 1904, in Cumbie, Texas, and died Thursday, April 25, at the age of 86. She moved with her family when she was a year old, to Duncan, Okla. Her father worked for the railroad so the family moved several times. They went to Rogers Mills County, settled near the Herring community in 1921. She married John Wesley DYKES in Hammon on Oct. 9, 1929. They lived in the Herring community until 1947, then moved to Hammon. In 1955, they moved to Elk City where they have lived since. She was employed by Armours here in Elk City for seven yers(years) and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, John Wesley DYKES, of the home; one son, Kendred DYKES, and his wife, Karen, of Elk City; and one daughter, Mrs. Susie REID and her husband, Darrell, of Canute; one brother, John CHAPMAN, of Hamon; three grandchildren, Regina FARNI of Canute, Dana BEARD of Elk City, and Kenny Wayne DYKES of Dublin, Calif.; three great-grandchildren.
