NORA EDEN. Nora Proctor was born in Hood Co., Texas, February 15, 1884, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Proctor. Died in Elk City Sunday night at the age of 40 years, 5 months, 5 days. She was married to J. E. Eden in 1900 and to this union was born two daughters, Eula age 21 and Ella age 17. Mr. Eden preceded her in death about ten months ago. Knowing that she had cancer and her condition was serious, she continued with her work out on the farm until last January when she was taken to the Sanitarium at Weatherford. She remained in Weatherford for several weeks and on return home she moved into town in order that her daughters may be with her and also attend school. In 1904, Mrs. Eden united with the Missionary Baptist Church of which she was a faithful member until the end. Too much can not be said about Mrs. Eden for she was loved by every one. Her sister remarked after Mrs. Eden's death that they did not know what they would do now for whenever sickness occurred among them she was always there to help and could always be depended upon. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Briscoe of Duncan. "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Who will sing for me", "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by Mrs. A. T. Ansley, Mrs. H. D. Cobb, Drew Watkins, and Walter Crane. The second song was sung at the funeral service of her husband and she loved the song very dearly. The remains were laid to rest in the Ural cemetery. The pall-bearers were George Eggleston, Bart Cox, W. H. Mitchell, Will Nix, Carl Staley, and Carl McPherson. She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, mother, Mrs. S. J. Proctor, three sisters Mattie Proctor, Mrs. R. E. Johnson, Mrs. Marcus Bloomer, all of Elk City, and one brother W. J. Proctor of Forgan. With the many friends the News Democrat wishes to express deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
