All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ ELDRIDGE, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (20 Dec 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Benjamin Franklin Eldridge was born in Linnco, Mo., Jan. 16, 1873; died in Elk City, December 14, 1928, age 55 years, 9 months and 29 days. He came with his father and four brothers to Barber county, Kansas, in 1883, his mother died when he was 2 years old. They then moved to what was then No Man's Land in Oklahoma. In 1885, when he was united in marriage to Victoria V. Stalaker, Dec. 17, 1891. To this union six children were born, three boys who died in infancy, and the girls who are living, namely: Mrs. Phebe Gatten of Carpenter, Okla.; Mrs. Mary Ross of Elk City, Okla.; and Ada Eldridge at home. This happy family moved to Beckham county in 1906 and have lived here and in Roger Mills county, continually since, except 4 years which were spent in Montana and Nebraska. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife and three daughters, five grandchildren, two brothers, M. W. Eldridge, of Holville, Calif., and James R. Eldridge of Portland, Oregon, and four nephews, whom he loved as his own. One nephew, Mark Eldridge, and his mother Cora Eldridge of Liberal, Kansas, came to visit him during his illness, but were unable to remain for the funeral. He leaves a host of other relatives and friends. Two nieces, Mrs. A. A. Reynolds and Mrs. H. W. Reynolds of Elk City, were with the bereaved ones. The funeral was held at the Church of God, Rev. C. S. Moad officiating. Miss Edna Moad and Miss Mable Perry sang a duet, "Beautiful Isles of Somewhere," while many friends and neighbors payed (sic) their last respects to the man that they loved and esteemed as a friend and neighbor.
