(8 Feb 1917, Thursday, Southwest News & Leader, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): W. L. Evans, a brother of Mrs. G. E. Martin of this city died at 12:40 Sunday night at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, after an illness of a few days from pneumonia, a telegram announcing his death being received here Monday morning, after Mrs. Martin had left Sunday night to go to his bedside. A message was received Saturday night announcing his illness, but it was not believed at that time it was so serious and Mrs. Martin was advised that further advices would be sent on Sunday, and Sunday morning she was asked to come, and left Sunday night. Mr. Evans was a son of the late Judge Evans, who was one of the pioneers of that section and widely known, and is survived by his daughter and his sister, Mrs. Martin, she being the only surviving member of the family. Funeral services were conducted at the home and the remains laid to rest in the family burying grounds at Mt. Pleasant.
