H. Ferguson, in Elk City. Deceased was born in Huston county, Texas, and at the time of death was 29 years of age. She lived for 9 years near Carter, this county, where she has hundreds of friends who will mourn her death. Five years ago, while visiting with a sister, at Petrolia, the dead lady was accidentally burned by an explosion of oil, which disfigured her face and hands, since which time she has led a very retired life, having had poor health a greater part of the time. The funeral services occurred on Thursday of last week, the religious service being conducted by Rev. W. A. Randle, of the Methodist church, owing to the absence from the city of the regular family pastor, Rev. Thomas, of the Baptist church. A large number of friends and neighbors followed the remains to the last earthly resting place. Deceased was a member of the First Baptist church here, having been admitted by letter. She had been a member of the Baptist organization since she was 16 years of age. Mattie was a conscientious and consistent member, with a pure Christian heart - one of God's own people - and her parents and sisters and brothers can console themselves with the beautiful thought that their dearest is close to the throne of God. (16 Sep 1910, Friday, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Miss Mattie Rue Ferguson died Wednesday of last week in Elk City. She was for many years a resident of the Carter vicinity, she had many friends here who will be grieved to know of her death, as she was only 29 years old. She was a member in good standing, of the Baptist church, and lived a consistant (sic) Christian life. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
