(18 Oct 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Lyda Schoonmaker was born at Winnebago, Ill., Oct 2, 1865, was married to John Flemming (sic) Feb. 23, 1889, at Central City, Ia. They came to Dewey county in 1900 and from there to Roger Mills county in 1911, where she lived on a farm near Grimes until her death which occurred Aug. 7, 1928. She joined the Christian Volunteers in 1910. She left to mourn her loss, her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Mabel Withers and Mina Ward of Cheyenne, Anna Dewees of Welston, Okla., Violet Helms of Palo Duro, Texas, and one son Cecil of Cheyenne. Two children preceded her; an infant son in 1902, and Mrs. Blanch Fender in 1920. She also left several grandchildren and a host of friends who will miss her. We have known Mrs. Flemming ever since she came to this country and can truly say she was a friend and neighbor to everyone, and when sickness came to the neighborhood the night was never too dark or too cold for her to go to help her neighbors. She will be sadly missed at the home and among the friends. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
