(24 Sep 1925, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK) Grandma Myers (sic), mother of Mrs. Dr. Steele died September 8th, and burial was made in the Elk City cemetery. Mrs. Myers has been a resident of the Berlin community for the past six years and her illness dates back four years. She was well and favorably known and leaves many friends to mourn her passing. Those of the relatives who came for the funeral were: Tom Steele, a grandson of Clayton, New Mexico, and his little daughter, Ruth; and granddaughter, Mrs. Camilla Bader and little son Joe of Boise City, Oklahoma. The sympathy of all goes out to Mrs. Steele and other relatives in their bereavement. Sue E. Mers, who was born in Nickolas Co., Ky, on June 2, 1851, the youngest of nine children, passed away at her home, south of Elk City, Saturday evening, Sept. 19, 1925 at 8:20. She moved, when only 5 years old to Pleasant Hill, Mo., where she grew to womanhood. She obeyed the Gospel by professing her faith in Christ joining the Christian Church and was always found at her post of duty even though in poor health for several years. She was united in marriage in 1877 to Asa L. Forgey, whom she had known from childhood. To this union were born six children, two girls and four boys, two having died in infancy. She also raised her niece, Lura L. Mers, who preceeded her to the Great Beyond in 1907. She moved with her husband and children to Pawnee, Oklahoma in 1897 where she made her home for four years. From there she moved near Elk City where she has made her home for the past 24 years. Her remains were taken to Grandview Cemetery and laid to rest on Sept. 20, 1925 where a large number of friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband Asa L. Forgey, two brothers Zern Mers and L. D. Mers of Carthage, Mo., three sons, W. L. of Carpenter, Okla., L. A. of Vilas, Colo., C. C. of Carpenter, Okla., one daughter, Mrs. J. D. McDonald of Canute, Okla., fourteen grand children, all of whom are here excepting one grandson Clarence Forgey of Vilas, Colo., and one brother, Zern Mers of Carthage, Mo.
