(15 Dec 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Ray Foster, the little eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foster, died this afternoon at the hospital where he underwent an operation. It was found he had cancer of the bowels from which time no hope was entertained for his recovery. Funeral will be held in Elk City tomorrow, Friday. (22 Dec 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): The funeral of little Ray Foster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foster, was held last Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. The church building was not large enough to hold the crowd. The Merritt school, where Ray had been a scholar, was dismissed and the teachers and scholars attended in a body. The choir sang "Near to Jesus." Rev. DeVore read the 14th chapter of John and led in prayer. A quartette composed of Mesdames Stout and Wilkes, Hiram Hall and Rev. Tracy sang "Loyal to the Lamb," a song dearly loved by little Ray and which he sang nearly every day in the home. Rev. Bigbee of Granite was in charge of the service. His daughter, Esther, sang "The Silver Chord," after which he gave a short biographical sketch of little Ray, then gave a helpful address on "The Resurrection." Many escorted the remains to the cemetery where after a short service the scholars and teachers of the Merritt school passed by the open grave each dropping a piece of evergreen on the casket. Arthur Ray Foster was born May 18, 1914, died December 15, 1921, aged 7 years, 6 months and 27 days old. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foster and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foster and Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Reed. The deepest sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
