(11 Apr 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Everett W. Freels was born in Tennessee on the 12th day of May, 1860, and passed from this life, April 5th, 1929, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 24 days. Although, Mr. Freels has not been in robust health for some time, yet the end came very suddenly and unexpected, he being critically ill only a few hours. On December 18, 1886, in Scabrough County, Tennessee, he was married to Miss Orpah Holloway and to this union were born six children, all of which survive him. Mr. and Mrs. Freels early married life was spent in Tennessee and Texas. Twenty-one years ago they came to Oklahoma and have resided here ever since. For these twenty-one years Oklahoma has had no finer citizen, no more respected neighbor and no more loyal friend. Mr. Freels was a very devout Christian. He was a member of the Hefner Methodist Episcopal Church and life he lived daily was a fitting example of the true and noble manhood. The faults in others were always quickly laid aside for the higher ideals. No harsh could possible live in a heart so filled with love for his family and friends. Oh! how his wife will miss him, the dear wife to whom he was so tenderly devoted, his constant companion, his soul-mate in all their sorrows, in all their joys. He was always ready to share with his children their problems of life, their hopes, their fears, their defeats or their triumphs. Let us be glad, therefore, that he has left to us a memory that we may cherish more and more as the years go by. Mr. Freels leaves to mourn his death, his loving and devoted wife, one son, Edgar of Canute, five daughters, Ethel Collins, Canute, Nana Music, Canute; Nettie Moudy, Elk City; Essie Whittenberg, Elk City; Edel Doty, Elk City; fourteen grandchildren, one brother of Elk City and two sisters of Texas. Funeral services were held in Elk City Methodist Church Sunday, April 7th at 2 o'clock by Brother J. W. Newman of Butler. Interment was made in Elk City cemetery, Gentry-Killough having charge. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
