A few weeks ago she stepped on a rusty nail which ran through her foot. At first it did not trouble her but later inflamation (sic) set up which terminated in blood poison. A physician was called in and the blood poison stopped, but on account of the poison in the system a very severe case of kidney trouble set in, which was the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. Gatten's maiden name was Martin, a sister of Uncle Bob Martin of near this city, Rev. J. W. Martin who made his home with her a part of the time, and Mrs. J. W. Dunn, deceased. Her husband died five years ago. She leaves four sons, William of Jefferson City, Mo., Edward, James and John, four daughters, Mrs. John Delmore of Ashland, Mo., Mrs. Marvin Bird of Texas, Mrs. Albert Moad of Carpenter and Miss Rebecka who lived with her mother. Mrs. Gatten came to this county 12 years ago from Boone County, Mo., and has lived here ever since. She was held in the highest esteem by her neighbors and host of friends. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Brown of the Baptist church at Hammon. She had been a member of the Baptist church since childhood.
