(25 Mar 1920, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY. Mrs. Edward Gatten. Lizzie R. Martin was born in Boone county, Mo., January 1, 1883. With her parents she came to Oklahoma in 1897. She was married to Edward Gatten, May 10, 1903, and died at her home near Luther, Okla., March 13, 1920. She was the mother of six children, four girls and two boys, who are left with her husband to mourn her untimely departure, but they do not mourn her as one that had no hope, for at the age of fifteen she was converted and united with the Baptist Church and has since lived a true and faithful christian. Death held no horrors for her, she had walked by the Savior through life and was led by Him through the Valley of Death to meet the loved ones gone on before. The first day of each year was always a great day at Uncle Bob's, when the children were at home, as Lizzie and Grover both had a birthday, she being just two years the oldest and they loved each other as twins. This dear mother will be sadly missed as it was her greatest pleasure to serve her family, and the baby, little three year old Billie, talk so much about "Mama" and will miss her so. Much sympathy is also extended to the aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Martin. They have buried their first three born, and to the husband and children. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
