Roach was born in Cairo, Ill., July 23rd, 1862. She was married in 1881 to Geo. B. Gibbs in Independence, Kansas. Five children were born, the eldest son, Clarence, passed away in Elk City in the year 1906. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs removed from Kansas to Oklahoma twenty-six years ago and have lived the greater number of those years in or near Elk City, consequently have a large number of friends and acquaintances in this community. Mrs. Gibbs and daughter, Mary, moved to Silver City, New Mexico, about two years ago, where they joined Mr. Gibbs and Neal to make their home. She has known intense suffering for the last several years of her life, but was patient and enduring through it all. She was taken to the hospital in November 1917, where an examination revealed cancer in the last stage. She died in St. Joseph's Hospital at Silver City, New Mexico, February 4th, 1918, and the body was removed to this place for burial Friday, February 8th. Two brothers, John and Con O'Connell, were here from Kansas, who with her husband, sons, Neal and Charles, daughters, Mary and Catherine McClain, compose the sole surviving members of her family. Beautiful floral offerings presented by friends in Silver City, were brought with the body in a perfect state of preservation. Which with the offerings of friends at this place attest the high regard and respect accorded to Mrs. Gibbs and her family wherever they are known. A Friend. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
