Interment in Retrop Cemetery, Gentry-Killough in charge. (30 Dec 1927, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. G. C. Gilliland of Carter, who had been sick for a long time, passed away about 9 o'clock on Wednesday night of this week. While everyone knew that Mr. Gilliland was in a serious condition when he returned from his southern Texas trip about two months ago yet his relatives and numerous friends still had hopes that he would succeed in his fight against the ravages of the disease that he was afflicted with and that he would gain back his health again. But it seemed that no permanent benefit could be obtained. When he and his wife went down to southern Texas his relatives and many friends hoped that the warm southern climate would be a great help to him but instead of it improving his condition it seemed to disagree with him as his condition appeared to be worse when he returned to this part of the country. In the death of G. C. Gilliland his family has lost a kind and loving father and the town and community has lost one of its very best citizens. We do not believe that a better man or finer citizen than G. C. Gilliland resided in this part of the country. The deceased left a loving and devoted wife and daughter, and other relatives, who are heart broken on account of his death. We extend to these our sympathy in the loss of their loved one. The remains were laid to rest in the Retrop cemetery. The business houses of Carter were all closed during the funeral hour in honor of the memory of a life for which everyone has a word of praise. (6 Jan 1928, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Card of Thanks. We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their loving deeds of kindness and words of sympathy shown us during the illness and death of our loved one. Mrs. G. C. Gilliland Ora Gilliland Mrs. J. J. Hines and family Mrs. Charley Masterson and family Mr. J. P. Ensey and son Mrs. J. H.
