(27 Apr 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Owen Haddock Passed Away Last Thursday Night. The announcement, here, last Friday morning that Owen Haddock, whose life has hung by a thread for several weeks, had died at the Arthur Creach home, the night before, cast a pall of deepest sorrow over this entire community. Just in the prime of young manhood, his death due to an accident, not only deeply grieves the surviving membership of his immediate family, but is terrible blow to his sister-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Creach, who innocently held the gun, the accidental discharge of which cost his life. Mr. Haddock was 25 years of age, a barber by profession and his genial, kindly disposition drew to him the cordial friendship of all with whom he came in conduct. He is survived by a broken-hearted widow and eight-month's old infant, a loving father and mother, three sisters and four brothers, along with a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. Conducted by Elder W. W. Brewer, the funeral was held Friday afternoon, at the Christian church, following by a large company, were taken to their last resting place at the city cemetery. At the grave 16 robed and masked Ku Klux appeared and performed the funeral rites of that order. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
