All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ HARRIS, DAISY OLIA (17 Jan 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Funeral services were held for Mrs. Orval Harris at the Church of Christ Friday at 4:00 o'clock, with Rev. J. Carman, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Harris died in Oklahoma City Thursday morning following an operation which was performed before the Christmas holidays. She was better known among Elk City folk as Olia Pruett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Pruett at 1800 West Fifth street, and was a graduate of the class of 1928 at Elk City High school . She was married July 24, 1928, to Orval Harris and moved to Oklahoma City shortly afterward where she lived until her death. She was born April 12, 1909. Interment was made in Fairlawn cemetery, Grubitz & Son, funeral directors had charge of arrangements. (24 Jan 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Daisy Olia Pruitt (sic), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Pruitt of Elk City, was born April 12, 1909, near Venson, Oklahoma, in Harmon County; died January 10, 1929, in Oklahoma General Hospital, Oklahoma City, Okla., age 19 years, 9 months and 29 days. She lived with her parents near Venson, Oklahoma, while quite small, most of her life, however, has been spent in Elk City where she attended school. She was a member of the 1928 graduating class of Elk City high school, and was loved by her friends in the high school. A part of her earlier life was spent at Duke and Carter, Okla. She was married July 25 (sic), 1928, to Oval (sic) C. Harris. This happy young couple made their home in Chandler for a short while, then they moved to Cordell, and later to Oklahoma City, where her husband was connected with the Southwest Bell Telephone Co. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Church of Christ of Elk City, she was converted during the Oliphant revival several years ago. She was very active in church work, especially the young peoples meetings. The floral offerings were profuse and of great beauty, representing the love and respect of a host of friends. The honorary pall bearers were chosen from her close friends. The active pall bearers were boys from the high school, and members of the 1928 senior class. Among those who could be present at the funeral were S. C. Havenhill and family of Wheeler, Texas; S. C. Havenhill, Jr., of Shamrock, Texas; Mrs. S. F. Pruitt of Willow and Mrs. E. H. Woolridge of Willow, and Garvin Hill of Willow, Okla. She leaves to mourn her going, her husband, Oval C. Harris; her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Pruitt; two small brothers and two sisters, and one older sister, Mrs. W. L. Watts of Mesa, Ariz., who was unable to come; two grandmothers and a host of friends.
