Grace Mignon Hastings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hastings, died Monday, December 22nd, at the home of the baby's grand mother, Mrs. Quisenberry. Baby Grace was born in Elk City March 4th, 1918 and was one year, nine months and eight(een) days old. She had hardly known a well day since she was three months old, and everything had been done for her that was possible to do. She received the most loving care, especially by Mr. and Mrs. Quisenberry at whose home she had lived so much when ill. She was the youngest grand child of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Blackburn and was loved dearly by the members of the family. We were all so encouraged when the baby would show improvement in health and all had hopes that she would recover. Funeral services were held Tuesday evening, conducted by Rev. Pankey, who made such a comforting talk. Mesdames Pankey, Kline, Willison and Cummings sweetly sang "Asleep in Jesus." "Little Jewels," and "Nearer My God To Thee." The pall bearers were Ruth Williams, Daisy Julian, Nevada Crosby, and Medell Phillips. The little body was laid to rest in beautiful Fairlawn cemetery, the interment being in charge of Grubitz & Son. The sympathy and kindness of friend and neighbors was appreciated so much by the relatives. (8 Jan 1920, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORIAM Grace Mignon Hastings. Born March 4th, 1918, Died Dec 22nd, 1919. The week before Baby Grace left us we had a dream, such a sweet one, where we saw her fully recovered, so happy and bright her sweet smile making her look like a little angel. We did not know she was in a serious condition then, and someway that dream gave us hopes that the little one who had been so many sick days would soon be well. Her condition had been much better, but taking with "flu" the little one was not able to withstand its ravages. Sleep on in thy beauty, Thou sweet angel child, By sorrow unblighted, By sin undefiled. Like a dove to the ark, Thou hast flown to thy rest; From the wild sea of strife, To the home of the blest. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
