E. Hay. During the great siege of the flu a few years ago the father was taken away and Clarence did all he could to take his place and has always been a devoted son and brother. Four years ago July 26, 1920, he went back to Moody to visit and on hearing a sermon there on John 3:14-15-16 he accepted Christ from which time he was ever true to Him. The funeral service was held in the Baptist Church, Monday afternoon where a crowd of sorrowing friends assembled to pay their last tribute of love and respect to Clarence and the many, many fragrant flowers were tokens of the esteem and love in which he was held. The pall bearers were Jack Hunter, Russian Willis, Noel Jones, Lyle Hagan, Arthur Williams, and W. J. Booten for whom he was working when taken sick. The choir sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" after which Rev. J. B. Conley led in comforting prayer and read some verses from the 7th chapter of Luke. Mrs. Wm. Francis and Mrs. R. L. Reid sang a duet. Rev. Conley made a helpful talk telling of the compassion of Christ urging the bereaved ones to cast all care upon Him for He careth for you." He spoke highly of the life of the deceased. The poignant grief manifested by his friends was a touching testimony of the esteem and deep affection with which he was regarded by them. The mortal body was laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery the grave being covered with beautiful flowers. R. O. Ward made a prayer at cemetery. Clarence was a nephew of O. B. Hay near Elk City, who with his family and the latters sister, Mrs. R. A. Smith and son Ethredge of Mangum, were present with the friends to offer help and consolation. To the mother, sister Ruby and brother Clois who are left to mourn, the News Democrat family wishes to offer our sincere sympathy fully realizing that we are unable to say words that will satisfy and soften the heartaches, but hoping that our intent will be appreciated and He who is able to soothe, will comfort them. CARD OF THANKS We take this method of expressing our profound thanks to our friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our dear son, brother and nephew, Clarence Hay. And especially do we wish to thank the doctors and nurses, who cared for him so tenderly in his illness. We also wish to thank the Woodmen Lodge, Knights of Klu Klux Klan, and the citizens of Elk City who so liberally donated in this time of need, and for the beautiful floral offerings. May God's richest blessings rest upon each of you is our prayer. Mrs. Bertha Hay. Clovis and Ruby. Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Hay and family. Mrs. R. A. Smith and family. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
