HAYS, LORENA
(22 Jun 1916, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK):
DEATH OF MRS. HAYS.
Mrs. Lorena Hays, mother of C. P. Hays, living south-east of Elk City,
died this morning.  Funeral services will be held from Hebron church
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

DEATH OF GRANDMA HAYS.
Lourena Sowdes, was born in Rock Castle County, Kentucky, October 23,
1840.  She was called to that home above on June 22, 1916, at the age of
75 years, 7 months and 29 days.
Deceased was married to Thomas J. Hayes (sic) February 4, 1866, who
preceeded her to her grave October 17, 1907.  To this union was born eight
children.  Four boys and four girls.  One girl died in infancy.
Grandma was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church when she
was sixteen years old, and has been a christian fifty-nine years.  May her
life be lived over and over again among her children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren.  Remember this one debt we all will have to pay; none
can shun death for it is our last calling on earth.  - Marcus Bloomer.
