Funeral services for J.D. Henderson will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday from Burns Flat First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Lloyd Hall. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, New Mexico under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service of Elk City. J.D. Henderson was born November 21, 1921 in Lampass, Texas to Julia Alene and Charles Edwin Henderson and died February 15, 2002 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center at the age of 80. J.D. joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served his country with E. Company, 506 Paratroopers, 10lst Airborne during World War II. After his discharge, he farmed in Artesia, New Mexico before moving to Perryton, Texas. J.D. married Lucille Horton at Reed Springs, Missouri on April 7, 1986 and they lived in Booker, Texas before moving to Burns Flat to make their home. He was a member of Burns Flat First Baptist Church. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Reva McLearen, five brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife Lucille of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bart and Polly Henderson of Mayflower, Arkansas, Bill Henderson of Dallas, Texas and Carl and Charlene Henderson of Columbiana, Alabama; one daughter, Roberta Baker and husband Chip of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two step children, Carl and Fred Johnson of Caruthers, California, Nick and Cindy Durfey of Darrouzett, Texas, ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
