The entire neighborhood was saddened last Sunday by the sudden death of George Heston, one of the best beloved citizens of the community in which he lived. He was taken suddenly ill with acute indigestion, last Friday morning, but seemed much better late Saturday night and it was thought he would get alright until a few minutes before his death at five o'clock Sunday morning. John George Heston was born December 23, 1884. When he was just two years old his father died and a very early age he assumed the responsibility of a man and was always glad to help his mother in any way to make things more pleasant for her. In 1900 the family moved to Oklahoma, where in 1906 he was married to Miss Correnia Alice West of Brantley, and soon after they moved to their present home four miles north of Elk City, where Mr. Heston died. Mr. Heston was converted, and united with the Church of Christ, about ten years ago, and has lived a conscientious christian life since then. He was a devoted husband and sincere and true to his friends. Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon, where many friends and the relatives assembled to pay their last tribute and listen to the words of comfort spoken by Rev. L. M. Meek. A wife, two children, two sisters and the mother, are left to mourn the loss of their loved one. The remains were laid to rest in East Fairlawn cemetery, with Robinson & Chandler in charge. The deep sympathy of their host of friends is extended to the family in their bereavement. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
