Earl Hill, who was taken to Roswell, N. M., for his health died at that place last Saturday. He leaves his wife and two year old baby. He was a brother of Virgil Hill. Funeral services will be held here Saturday. (12 Aug 1920, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): EARL HILL Earl Hill died August 1, 1920, at Roswell, New Mexico, where his father had taken him for his health. He was born January 12, 1897, was 23 years, 7 months and 19 days old. He leaves a wife, formerly Miss Ruth Maddox, and one child, father, mother, brother and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He enlisted in the war and served eleven months after the armistice was signed. His health was somewhat improved after going to New Mexico, but he had pleurisy pains at the heart and was too weak to endure the strain. Two days before his death his father was talking to him about his expected journey into the other world and he said, "Papa, I am not uneasy." Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 3 p.m. Friday by Rev. Bowles, a large number of sorrowing friends being present. The remains were laid to rest at the Fairlawn cemetery. The News-Democrat joins with many friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
