D. Thomas returned to their home at Swink, Colo., Tuesday. They were called here by the illness of their daughter, Mrs. Arthur Hill, and arrived several hours before her death. Their other daughter, Mrs. M. R. Baldwin, who lives in Colorado, was very ill but word received states that she is better. A son, Albert Thomas, of Johnstown, Colo., arrived here Monday in time to attend his sister's funeral. Another brother, Wesley, lives at Swink, Colo., but could not be here. Obituary. Viola Irene Hill was born in Perrin, Mo., January 24th, 1891, and died in Elk City November 30th, 1918, after a few days illness of pneumonia, aged 27 years, 10 months and 6 days. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Thomas and came with her parents to Oklahoma in 1901, and she lived most of those years in Elk City, though she lived in Hammon two years and at Cheyenne two years where Mr. Hill was treasurer of Roger Mills county. Besides her husband she leaves two little boys, Victor, aged five and Roger, aged three, her parents, three brothers and one sister, and a large circle of friends. Deceased was converted in early life and joined the M. E. Church, South, and for some time was teacher of the primary class in the Sunday School. She was a faithful christian, a devoted mother and a true hearted friend. She had a beautiful faith in her Master, and during her illness told her friends she was not afraid to die, and made all arrangements for her funeral. She regretted to leave her loved ones and especially her two little boys but she arranged for their care when she would not be with them. She had great strength of character, and true nobility of soul. She will be greatly missed in the home and by her friends for she was always thoughtful of others. Funeral services were held at Fairlawn cemetery, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Randle of Weatherford. He was her former pastor here and he said she was ever ready to assist in all church work. He paid a beautiful tribute to her. She lived in the hearts of all who knew here, and under all circumstances she seemed born to inspire the love and respect of all who were so fortunate to be acquainted with her. Her casket was covered by beautiful flowers showing the love of friends. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
