All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ HILL, WILLIAM DOW (13 Oct 1921, Elk City News, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): WILLIAM DOW HILL GIVEN MILITARY FUNERAL. A large crowd was present in Strong City (Roger Mills County) Thursday afternoon when the remains of William Dow Hill were laid to rest in the cemetery of that city. The American Legion had charge of the services. Rev. C. M. Oursler, pastor of the Methodist church in Cheyenne preached the funeral sermon. William Dow Hill was born in Palo County, Texas, May 23, 1890. At the time of his enlistment he was employed in the Girdner mercantile company of Strong City. He was a young man who stood high in his community and gladly gave his life for the cause of his country. He was killed in action in France October 23, 1918, at the age of 28 years. He leaves a father, mother, one brother and three sisters to mourn his loss.
