B. 8 Feb 1876 D. 12 Jan 1923 Sayre-Doxey Cemetery Beckham Co OK H/O Florence Rhea(Thompson) M. 14 Aug 1923 Fredrick W. Holmes, 65 years old, Sayre jewelry store owner and pro- minent civic leader died at 4 o'- clock Monday morning flowing a brief illness. Mrs. Holmes suffered stroke early Saturday and his condition grew steadily worse until his death. He had been ill for about a week but his condition was not consider- ed serious until early Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the First Methodist church of Sayre with Rev. Paul Hiyely, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Sayre-Doxey ceme- tery. Mrs. Holmes was born February 8, 1876, at Sebatha, Kans. He came to Sayre in 1905 and established his jewelry business and had remained as its manager since that time. He was married August 14, 1923, to Florence Rhea Thompson. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Florence Rhea Holmes, and one son, Fred, jr. both of the home address. Two brothers, E. B. Holmes and George R. Holmes, live at Hennes sey, Okla. Mr. Holmes was a charter mem- ber of Sayre Rotary club and the Sayre Odd Fellows lodge. He also was a member of the Sayre Masonic lodge and a Shriner. He had served as Mayor of Sayre, presi- dent of the Sayre Chamber of Com merce, and in recent years was selected as Sayre's most useful cit- izen. Masonic rites will be held at the cemetery. Mrs. Holmes is the niece of Mrs. A. L. Thurmond of Elk City. Elk City News 12 Jan 1942
