HARLEN HOPKINS DEAD
On Friday July 13, 1923, occurred the death of William Harlen Hopkins of
San Antonio, Texas.  The deceased was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Hopkins and was born on the Horse Shoe ranch in Hemphill County, Texas on
January 7th, 1886 and spent his life, 37 years, six months and six days in
that community excepting for four years in which he attended school in
Canadian and as he grew older assumed many of the cares of his father's
cattle business and came to know probably every person in Hemphill County.
 He was married about ten years ago to Miss Mary Trammel, whose death
occurred two and one half years ago.  The loss of his wife was a blow from
which he could not rally and that, with heavy business cares precipitated
a nervous collapse that ended in his death.  The funeral was held under
the auspices of the Canadian Masonic Lodge of Canadian, Texas.  The regard
in which the deceased and family were held was attested by the presence of
many friends and a profusion of flowers.  He leaves to mourn his loss,
three children, Billy, 9, Laura Elizabeth, 7, and Little Mary 2 1/2; his
parents, a sister, Mrs. Bessie Whatley, a brother, Glenn Hopkins, and
scores of relatives and friends.  The associate editor of the News
Democrat is a cousin of the deceased.  Whole communities extend their
heartfelt sympathy to the stricken family.
Mr. and Mrs. P. Trammel of Cheyenne attended the funeral of their
son-in-law, Mr. Harlen Hopkins, who was buried in Canadian Tuesday, July
17th.
