All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* HOPPER, NORA ADA (15 Sep 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Miss Nora Hopper living north of Grimes, accompanied by mother and stepfather J. Gamble, was brought to Elk City last Thursday suffering from appendicitis. She was taken to hospital for operation and it was thought for a while that she might recover, though from the first it was known she was in a very serious condition for peritonitis had set in. Friday morning it was seen that her recovery was impossible and relatives were summoned. She passed away that afternoon, September 9th. The body was taken to Grubitz & Son, undertaking rooms, where it was embalmed and prepared for burial. Accompanied by a number of friends and relatives the remains were taken to the home where funeral services were held and interment made at Sanders cemetery. The deceased young lady was aged 13 years and 6 months. The (She) was the daughter of Tom and Elsa Hopper. Her father died when she was about two years of age and her step-father, J. Gamble, was ever a real father to her. She was a lovely character, loved by all who know her, and the news of her death cast a deep gloom over the neighborhood, where she was raised. Her parents and Mrs. J. W. Smalts were with her when she passed away. Others here Saturday were Mrs. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey McDonald, Curg and Elbert McDonald, of Foss, Mr. and Mrs. Hullum Turbyfill of Grimes. (22 Sep 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Miss Nora Ada Hopper The entire community was deeply shocked and grieved at the sad news of the death of Miss Nora Ada Hopper. Her death occurred from perontitis September 9, 1921, result of appendicitis. The great grief was manifested by our people when her death was announced, for Nora had lived here since early girl-hood and was a favorite with all. She knew so many of our people and people of all stations of life were ever greeted with her sweet happy smile. She realized the seriousness of her condition and told her mother the way looked bright. She was so happy in her home and was always so cheerful. Nora was so obedient, always trying to help and please her mother and stepfather of whom she was so proud. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Sanders cemetery, where the many friends gathered to bid their friend and loved one good-bye. Grubitz & Son of Elk City were in charge of interment. She was laid to rest by the side of her father, Tom Hopper, who passed away in December 1910. Nora graduated from the Eighth grade at the close of school last winter and her school mates acted as pall-bearers. Nora Ada Hopper was born in Wise county, Texas, March 9, 1902 (1908)and moved with her parents to Grimes, Oklahoma, where she remained until her death, age thirteen years and six months.
