(16 Jan 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Woman 102 Years Old Dies Tuesday. Mrs. Sarah J. Horsley, aged 101 years 10 months and 19 days, mother of Mrs. Metzler, living southeast of Elk City, died at the latter's home on Tuesday, January 13th. Funeral services were held at the Metzler home at 3:30 Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Richards of Texas, and interment was made in Ural cemetery. Mrs. Horsley had been in splendid health, and quite active until the last month. Her mind was bright and she very interesting to talk to. She was held in the highest respect of all who knew her and was a good christian woman. (23 Jan 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Sarah J. Horsley was born Feb. 15, 1823, in Talbert county, Georgia. Died January 13th, 1925, at the home of her daughter, Cynthia Metzler, near Ural. Mrs. Horsley lived in Georgia until she became a woman when she was united in marriage to John Wortham. To this union was born one daughter. After a few years of married life Mr. Wortham passed away. In 1861 she married J. K. Horsley. To them was born six children, only two are living. She moved with her husband to Texas and lived there until thirty years ago, then she moved with her son, B. L. Horsley and daughter Cynthia, to Trail, Oklahoma, where she lived for many years. Around her home there she had many friends that loved her and will mourn her death. She has lived here and near Port for seventeen years. She was a devoted wife and a dear and darling mother. She became a Christian when very young. She leaves one sister, while three sisters, two brothers and father and mother preceded her in death. She was a great-grandmother to eighteen great grandchildren, and had twenty grandchildren, six children being in home with their mother, Mrs. G. P. Dedmon, A. D. Metzler and E. L. Metzler of Elk City, Mrs. M. C. Beam of Rhea, Okla. She has eight nieces and nephews to mourn her death among them being Judge Clay of Mangum and Lawyer Tisinger of Oklahoma City. Her most cherished song was "I'm going up home to die no more," and she sang not more than two weeks before she died. She is gone, dear friends, but not forgotten. Funeral services were held at the Metzler home at 3:30 Jan. 14, by Rev. Richards of Texas.
