Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Virgie Lou Howard was born July 31, 1913 in Collin County, Texas to Nellie and Jim Williams and died Sunday, Feburary 18, 2002 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital of Sayre, at the age of 88. Virgie moved with her parents to Sayre in 1916. She was married to Thurman Howard at Sayre on February 18, 1933. They moved south of Sayre until 1961 when they moved to Duncan. In 1976 they moved back to Sayre to make their home. Virgie and Thurman had worked as the custodians for the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Sayre First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Hollis Williams. Survivors include one daughter, Janetta June Maxwell of Marion, North Carolina; two sisters, Grace Dungan of Sayre, Jacqueline Lewis of Blair; one brother, Jack Williams of Duncan; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
