F. Ellis still reside. She was a member of the Baptist Church having joined at Hebron about five years ago. She had lived in Elk City practically all of her life and was married to Clarence Arnold Hubbard on August 18th, 1920. Mr. Hubbard was with the Marland Filling Station here for almost three years where he made many friends because of his good nature and an ever ready smile. In November last he was made manager of the Marland Station at Cheyenne and he and his wife began their residence there. Mrs. Hubbard possessed a sweet, unassuming disposition which endeared her to many, as was shown by the attendance at the funeral which was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist Church. Sympathetic hands had decorated the church beautifully with ferns and cut flowers. The floral offerings were emblematic of the love which the donors had for her. She had suffered severely during the few days prior to her passing, but seemed quite reconciled to her fate, whether she should go or be spared. Just a short time before the end, she called her family to her and after calling each one by name sang "Nearer My God to Thee." She also made some requests of her sister, Mrs. Smalts, among them that Rev. Hamilton preach her funeral sermon and that Mrs. Gibbs sing a song that she loved, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." These wishes were carried out as nearly as possible, Rev. Hamilton speaking words of condolence to the relatives and friends and Mrs. Gibbs singing the song she requested, with a violin accompaniment by Bessie May Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton at the piano. Several beautiful selections were given by the choir. Besides her mother and father, three sisters and four brothers survive her. They are: Mrs. V. C. Ward of Shidler, Okla., Mrs. C. H. Smalts of Elk City, Mrs. E. A. McCollom of Wichita, Kans., J. A. Ellis, W. J. Ellis, J. D. Ellis, all of whom are married and live near Elk City and Ernest Ellis who resides with his parents. The pall bearers were: Walter Gibbs, Jack Cummings, Clarence Hadlock, Donnie McClain, Walter Blackburn and Ray Brown. Friends who came from Cheyenne to attend the funeral were: Clyde Hubbard, Dr. and Mrs. Tunnard, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Remby, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Kendall, Marie Anderson, Mrs. George Burns, Mrs. Isabel Fields, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Steer and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steer. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
