While she has not been well for some time her condition did not seem serious until the past week and her death will come as a great surprise to many of her friends. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment at Fairlawn cemetery. Mrs. Hudson was forty years old the 2nd of last September. She was a member of the Baptist church, also of the Royal Neighbors, and was a lady held in the highest esteem of all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and daughter, Thelma, sixteen years old, also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Shobe of Durham, Oklahoma, brother John Shobe of Kentucky and Gus Shobe of Durham, and one sister, Mrs. Bert Pannell of Elk City. (25 Jan 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Sadie Shobe was born to Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Shobe at Guthrie, Mo., September 2nd 1882, and died at her home in Elk City, January 18, 1923. She was married to Bert Hudson, in Arapaho, Oklahoma, July 21st 1905. To this union one daughter and two sons were born, the sons preceding her in infancy, being survived by her husband and daughter, Thelma, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Shobe and brother Gus of Durham, John of Kentucky and sister, Mrs. Bert Pannell of Elk City. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. Hamilton and concluded at the Fairlawn cemetery where the beautiful burial ceremonies of the Royal Neighbors of America was read by Mrs. Hiebert. Mrs. Hudson being a charter member of that lodge and had always held some office. The love and esteem the Royal Neighbors held for her was manifested in the beautiful floral pillow of purple and white being the lodge colors. The M.W.A. and W.O.W., Odd Fellows and Rebekah. Mrs. Redden and the ladies of her immediate neighborhood sent beautiful floral gifts. Messrs. Midyett and Boney also closed the Bowling Alley Friday, draping their doors in crepe. Mr. Hudson has been an employee for some time at that place. Mrs. Hudson was converted at eighteen, was a real Christian and very devoted to her home. She has had the poorest of health for the past eight years. She set a wonderful example. No wonder her neighbors were prone to part with her. She never had a bad neighbor. In five minutes she could relate a hundred good things about them. It cost so little to say something nice, to speak a pleasant word to whom we meet and life is very short at the longest. The past week I heard so many say "Sadie has been by my bed side day after day, night after night." These who are left realize as never before they have lost a wonderful friend. Mrs. A.L. Hiebert. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
